About Danny Davies

Composer & Lyricist

Danny has worked successfully in the music industry for over thirty years, composing and producing music for a diverse range of broadcast media, publishing companies and record labels. Aside from writing tracks and developing artists for labels such as Sony, De Wolfe, Chrysalis and Plugged, and producing music for TV and radio including commissions for BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Sky, he continues to pursue his passion for Musical Theatre, this album being his latest offering in this genre.

Danny's first musical Loco Parentis, composed at the age of 19 years old, alongside lyricist and librettist Judy Wolfson, was staged at the Wyllyotts Theatre in 1992. This was certainly the turning point in his career; Danny discovered a passion for musical theatre that continues to drive his creative side some 30 years later.

Following his graduation from Keele University in 1997, where he obtained his BA in Music and Educational Studies and his certificate in Education, he embarked on a career combining teaching with composition. His first commercial album was commissioned in 1997 by DeWolfe Music Publishing (who have gone on to publish more than 450 of Danny's tracks for TV, Radio, Film and commercial release). He won two international songwriting awards and also wrote music for the BAFTA nominated, award-winning documentary "Brainman" as well as the title  music for Zoe Ball's weekend TV show.

2001 saw the debut performance of "Merrick" The Musical, Danny's second fully scored musical with lyrics by Judy Wolfson, staged at The Pleasance Theatre, London. This piece led to a new partnership between Danny, Judy and script-writer, director and actor Pete Gallagher, who had starred in the musical at The Pleasance Theatre. The musical, now fully completed and expanded, was released for license under the new title "Face To Face", and was featured at various international venues, including Cardiff's International Festival of Musical Theatre in 2003, and more recently in Pensilvania, USA.

Hey Producer!, Danny's latest offering, is a collection of songs from past productions, more recent projects and songs written specifically for the album. With the kind support of numerous musical theatre stars from London's West End, this album features voices from some of the World's favourite musicals, including Les Miserables, Ghost, Phantom of the Opera, Betty Blue Eyes, Avenue Q, Chess, Wicked, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Road Show, Chicago, Sister Act, Tommy, Blood Brothers and many more. From dramatic theatrical ballads to intimate cabaret performances, this album is an emotional roller coaster that demonstrates Danny's wide range of composition and lyrical style. In the words of Dame Judi Dench, "I think Danny has produced something new and exciting. Have a listen and I'm sure you will agree."

Of course, Danny hopes you'll also agree and welcomes your feedback!
